Report on Ben More
25 March 2012
Ben More and Stob Binnein
Today's Craggys - Kathryn, Gail, Irene, Mark, Robin, Kenny and Michael B.
Weather was warm and sunny!!
We started off at the layby on the A85 next to Benmore Farm. We followed the zigzag track uphill and followed the Benmore Burn then headed uphill losing the path at times till we reached Bealach-eader-dha-Bheinn between the munros. Here we had a well earned rest. The quickest group of Kathryn, Kenny and Gail decided to push on as they intended doing Stob Binnein too while the rest of us were happy with Ben More. Ben More is the 16th highest Munro at Ben More is the 16th highest Munro at 3852ft.
We continued up the well defined path to Ben More and met the others coming down. Near the summit there is a short scramble which can be bypassed. The summit was busy and we met a couple and their friends who were climbing munros so the names of the mountains could be put on the guests tables at their wedding reception. We sent them onto Stob Binnein so they could bag another today but some of them looked as though they would have struggled.
We sat just off the summit for a while in the sun before deciding that we would take the direct route down the NW face. Most of the way there was a path but then it became wet boggy grass making it slippy. We were glad to reach the track again.
We waiting for the others in the nearest pub and they weren't too far behind us. A good day was enjoyed by all.
