Report on Bute cycle
28 March 2012
Today's Craggys:- Irene, Maureen and Richard
As we were having an unexpected heatwave in March and I was on annual leave, we decided to make the most of it. The bikes were taken out of our garages after being stored there all winter. They were given a clean and tyres blown up to the correct pressure all set for the first cycle of the year.
Met Maureen and Richard at Wemyss Bay for the ferry to Rothesay. It was a bit chilly initially but after we started cycling we soon warmed up. We headed north from the ferry terminal towards Port Bannatyne. Within the first mile or two my chain came off when changing gear. So for the next 20 minutes Richard worked on my bike and with a few tweaks to the gears he managed to sort the problem. Thanks goodness Richard knew what he was doing cause I wouldn't have had a clue!
Coming out of Port Bannatyne we headed inland on the A844. We cycled down to Ettrick Bay where we had lunch. Then it was on to Scalpsie Bay, passing the island of Inchmarnock. We reached the Kingarth Hotel at Kilchattan Bay for a well earned drink. Then it was off through the grounds of Mount Stuart House before heading north back the Rothesay for the ferry home.
This was approx a 25 mile cycle along quiet roads with only a few hills to contend with. Great to see the mainland, Arran and Cumbrae from a different angle. Well worth another visit.
