Report on Ben Ime & Ben Luibhean
23 August 2012
Craggies: Robin, Michael & Malcolm.
After a short discussion at the club night Michael and I decided to climb the Corbett Beinn Luibhean at the top of the Rest and be Thankful.
Michael arrived at 0830 and brought Malcolm with him. We departed N Ayrshire and set off for Arrochar. The drive up Loch Lomondside was a bit dispiriting as very heavy rain fell continuously!
As we travelled the weather showed signs of improvement and we arrived at the car park at butterbridge beside the A83 with clearing skys. There was even a view to Ben Ime.
We started off with the intention of crossing the old military bridge and walking to the road across the field, this however turned out to be a complete swamp and a retreat back across the old bridge was required. Good start to the day!
We followed the road around and started up the track towards the valley leading to the beallach between Ben Ime and Beinn Luibhean. Not being sure where the path was we followed the fence (on the wrong side as it turned out) and eventually picked up the path.
After reaching the beallach we had some decent views to The Cobbler (looks strange from that angle). We continued round below the crags and eventually made our way up through the crags to the summit where the usual wet and windy conditions were enjoyed. After a couple of photos we left for the return journey.
We descended from the summit and followed the path which we had missed on the way up. The weather improved again on the descent and soon we were back at the car park.
After the obligatory refreshment and view of The Cobbler in Ben Arthur?s bothy we drove back to N Ayrshire. All in all another successful day out .
