Report on Ben Lomond
22 September 2012
Today's Craggys - Richard, Robin, Maureen, Alison and Irene
It was an unusual day as the sun was shining and there was excellent visibility. It was a perfect day for Richard to attempt his first munro and for Alison's comeback!
We set off from the carpark at Rowardennan heading north along the West Highland Way for a short distance until we reached the track leading up the Ptarmigan route. This way up Ben Lomond is more scenic that the traditional tourist route with views along Loch Lomond and over to the Arrochar Alps. We took our time and enjoyed a long lunch break before the final ascent to the summit.
Richard bagged his first munro but he was overshadowed by so many other people at the trig on the summit all celebrating a grandmother and her brother's final munro. Her grandson slept through all the celebrations as he was being carried by his dad in a baby carrier. After taking the customary summit photos we headed down the tourist route which seems never ending and back to the carpark. We had our end of walk drink to celebrate Richard's success in the Rowardennan Hotel before the journey home.
What a fine day for a celebration!!
