Report on Ben Lomond
12 December 2010

Where are all the Jocks?

It was a bit of a grim start on the way up ? the roads were icy. However two members of the club ? one Englishman, one Irishman headed for Ben Lomond ? where were the others?

The road up to Rowardennan was rutted with ice ? we arrived at 11.00am ? the sun was shining. We headed up towards Ptarmigan ? by this time the sun was really strong and there were a few sweaty brows! We soon hit patches of snow and ice ? the climb seemed steeper than usual. Lunch on the ridge then headed for the steep sharp ascent to the top of Ben Lomond.

Chris, the crampon virgin, donned them for the first time! 25 minutes, a bit of huffing & puffing and we were at the top ? magnificent views.

On the way down Chris got us lost ? only kidding ha ha! We both got a bit lost as we strayed off the path because it was so icy (Chris had already taken a bad tumble). The GPS packed in so we had to depend on instinct to get us through the forest ? it was a bit of guess work in the dark!

5.30pm back at the car ? then headed to the Oak Tree Inn for a well deserved beer!
