Boots Across Scotland Event - Glenshee
Sunday 6th June 2004

Glas Maol and Creag Leacach, Sunday June 6th 2004

Seven of us met up at the Glen Shee ski centre to walk these two hills as part of the Boots Across Scotland fundraising event. Irene, Diren and Robin had been staying at the bunkhouse, while Nita and I drove up with our friends Norma and Rhona.

The ascent of the first hill, Glas Maol was strange, starting as we were at about 2000ft and walking up through the tangle of ski tows, huts and other out of season ski paraphernalia. By the time we were out of that we were above Munro height on Meall Odhar and it was not long before we were walking across the summit plateau towards the cairn of Glas Maol.

A descent across wide expanses of grass led onto the ridge to Creag Leacach. This quickly became stony and rocky and was almost but not quite a little narrow in places! We reached the days second summit and then continuing along the ridge before descending to cross the river and then climbing all the way back to Meall Odhar via the broad easy angled ridge of Leacann Dubh. A final plod back by the ski tows took us to the cars and the promise of a well-earned pint.
